Chalk Board 002:
By Jan Mitzelle Plalon, Grade 6
& Shekiyah Reyn Obcena, Grade 6
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” This is the classic question everybody gets asked from Preschool to College. For most people, it’s an ever-changing response. One student, for instance, would probably remember answering this with “a doctor” back in Preschool days. As she gets to Grade School it becomes “a chef.” Then it’s “a news reporter.” And she graduates “an engineer.” Such wasn’t the case for Ms. Mayflor Luable.
“I want to be a teacher,” she would always respond with this whenever her teacher would ask her, even back in childhood days. She had always known what she wanted to be in the future.
She wanted to teach young minds and inspire them.
She was steadfast in this endeavor growing up. Now, she has been teaching in WILL School of Antipolo, Inc. for 5 long years.
Her students and fellow teachers have always known Teacher Mayflor as a very energetic and faithful teacher.
It Was Never Easy
“Teaching is not an easy job. You will get demotivated, exhausted, and discouraged,” Ms. Mayflor said.
She added that in her pursuit of teaching, trust, and faith in the Lord should always be there as challenges are constant too.
“In every profession, there will always be challenges for us to grow with and triumphs for us to keep on going,” she shared the mantra that keeps her moving forward.
“If you would ask me if I’m challenged with this profession, I would always say yes. But what inspires me to keep on pursuing this is the sparkling eyes of a child upon seeing you enter the school premises, and the lonely eyes that need your love and affection,” she said.
Pay It Forward
With her advisory class, Grade 6-Fortitude, and her students from other sections, she always shares these inspiring lessons about life and having faith in the Lord. It doesn’t end in the subject matters.
“Life teaches us lessons to ponder on and learn,” she believes that these lessons are from God and His way to mold our characters in His Christ-likeness.
Whatever she learns in life, she shares it with her students. This is perhaps one of the many reasons that make her one of the most inspiring teachers in the school.
“In the very first place, it was my passion to mold young minds and keep the passion burning, char,” she shares in her character laugh.
A child needs love, support, and guidance from their teachers and parents, and Ms. Mayflor understands this perfectly.
“As a second parent to every student here in school, my only advice to them is to build a relationship with the Lord and be very dependent on Him. Remember that He will never leave us nor forsake us,” she says, ending our interview with a very valuable piece of advice.
